I don't like either except for conjuration staff because they take longer to cast or feel awkward with the animation, but you might. Grab a staff too, that is what they for and one reason mages use them for when they run out of magic. later,- that said I've put about 5 points in health before when my magic was sufficient, and it saved me a couple times. And putting points in anything but magic is pretty much a waste as you'll likely be one-shotted if you get hit, esp. Like some have said, a companion helps until you level up some more. I use it, some use stones that address their weaknesses or the Apprentice Stone if they can counter the magic damage.Īltmer is easier to do a mage with but Dunmer and Breton are good choices too. Other gear will help and once you get those items THEN you might like the Atronoch stone as you'll have some counters to the heavy malus the stone causes on magic regen. Don't cast high level spells when lower ones will do - and missing is bad.obivious stuff. Once you have those in hand, if you have your perks that reduce magic cost in order you should be OK. The last quest is challenging so be prepared, maybe level up a bit if needed. You'll also get an important mask, Morokei, if you finish the Mages' questline that will help A LOT. It gets easier with the ArchMage robes which you can steal at one point (I think you're past that but if you have access to Sarvos' quarters they are on a table, his boots are nice too) or earn the hard/fun way.
